Coalition Launches “Invest in MI Kids” Ballot Initiative to Fund Michigan’s Public Schools

LANSING, MI — Michiganders, across our races, places, and backgrounds, know that our kids are the future. They deserve an education that prepares them to be the next generation of leaders in our communities. And yet, legislators of the past have left Michigan schools underfunded for decades, resulting in falling education achievement levels, crumbling facilities, and a teacher shortage crisis. Invest in MI Kids believes that we can build a better Michigan. We can raise over $1 billion to fund our schools and provide students with what they need regardless of whether they are in the southeastern corner of the Lower Peninsula or the northwestern corner of the UP. We are a coalition of parents, educators, small business owners, and community leaders coming together to pass a ballot initiative that would provide Michigan schools with over $1 billion in annual funding by applying a fair share surcharge to Michigan’s millionaires. Research has shown that whole communities benefit and our economy grows when our schools get the funding they need.
